Message to the JSL Community Regarding Summer Swim Season

April 20, 2021

Dear JSL Community,

On April 18th, the JSL board voted to implement the following plan for the 2021 summer swim season:

  • The JSL will hold regular competition using a 6 week schedule, but the meets will be split by age group to comply with state/county social distance regulations. As a result, each team will compete in 3 total meets in 2021, with 1/2 of a meet being swum each week. Meets will begin the week of June 14th, starting with the 11-over age group. The following week will be 7-10 year olds.
  • During the regular meets, no 5-6 year-old events will be swum. Instead, teams will be encouraged to host an unofficial inter squad meet for just 5-6 year olds. ¬†Meet officials will not be organized by the JSL for these meets. Teams will be responsible for organizing unofficial starter and timers and distribution of awards (ribbons and heat winners)
  • At the discretion of meet directors from each team 5-6 year olds may be allowed to swim during the regular meet in 8-under events, and may be part of a relay team.
  • Meets will not be scored (no ‘team’ competition). Swimmers will still get times, placings, and awards.

Regarding relays, the full board has not made an official decision on how to conduct relays, but the COVID committee is recommending they be allowed to run with a limit of 2 relay teams per heat.

At this time, the Board has not voted on having a Championship meet, but discussion has begun. We anticipate a decision being made on Champs by June 14.

As the season draws closer, your teams will provide information as to how the meets will be run safely to allow social distancing between swimmers, parents, officials and volunteers.

We can't wait to see all of you at the pools this summer!

Sincerely,

Christina Meyer
